Most brides purchase their wedding gowns on an average of 9-12 months before the wedding day, but alterations should begin much later! This is because it is always best to alter the gown as close to the wedding day as possible so that any fluctuations in weight can be easily addressed. In my experience, many brides are super stressed out in the months leading up to the wedding and drop weight like crazy! This usually is not by choice, but just happens! And other brides just fluctuate normally in either direction. I recommend starting alterations 2-3 months before the wedding, with the final fitting around 2 weeks before the big day. It is important to note that if the dress needs significant alterations or is very intricately beaded/embroidered, or the bride has chosen to alter the dress by adding something like sleeves, etc..it's best to start closer to the 3 month before mark.
